Khao Lak ist ein Urlaubsziel, das das Herz eines jeden Naturliebhabers höher schlagen lässt. Die Besonderheit dieser Urlaubsregion liegt unter anderem darin, dass die Strände nicht mit Liegestühlen übersät sind, da diese nur im Privatbereich der Hotelanlagen stehen dürfen und turbulenter Wassersport auf Jetskis oder Bananaboats verboten ist. Khao Lak bezeichnet heute nicht mehr nur das kleine Dorf an der Westküste Thailands, von dem die Destination ihren Namen hat, sondern eine ganze Urlaubsregion, die sich über einen etwa 30 Kilometer langen Küstenabschnitt erstreckt. Dieser hat eine einzigartige Besonderheit für seine Urlauber zu bieten: Er wird zum einen von der Küstenlinie der tropischen Andamanen-See umschlossen: Sie blicken auf türkisblaues Meer umrahmt von puderfeinen Sandstränden und Kokospalmen. Drehen Sie sich jedoch um, dann ragen vor Ihnen dschungelbewachsene Bergzüge auf und Sie hören die vielen Geräusche des unberührten Urwalds mit zahlreichen Wasserfällen, der darauf wartet erkundet zu werden.

Geographische Lage, Reisezeit & Klima
Der Küstenstreifen Khao Lak liegt etwa 70km nördlich von Phuket; von Phuket-Stadt aus sind es etwa 100km in nördliche Richtung. Die atemberaubende Region ist in der Phang Nga Provinz im Westen Thailands beheimatet und wird von der Andamanen See umspült. Am besten lässt sich Khao Lak zwischen November und Mai bereisen. Urlauber können während dieser Reisezeit den Regenwald wie auch die andamanische See genießen. In den Monaten danach wird die Region vom Monsun beherrscht – das Meer bäumt sich auf und wirft rießige Wellen an die Küste. Es fahren dann keine Schiffe mehr, die Similian Inseln sind geschlossen. Auch der Regenwald wird dann seinem Namen gerecht – es regnet oft, wenn auch meist nur kurz – wie aus Eimern.

Strände von Khao Lak
Die Küstenregion Khao Lak erstreckt sich über sieben traumhafte Strandabschnitte mit einer insgesamten Länge von etwa 30 Kilometern. Sie finden hier atemberaubende Lagunen, puderfeinen Sandstrand, türkisblaues Meer, sagenhafte Felsvorsprünge und Kokospalmen. Im Folgenden können Sie die Strände vom Süden aus kommend näher kennenlernen.
- Der Khao Lak Beach bildet die südliche Grenze der Destination. An diesem naturbelassenen Strand finden Sie das kleine Dorf Khao Lak, das der Namensträger der Region ist.
- Der Sunset Beach zählt mit zu den schönsten Stränden von Khao Lak. Der Strand liegt am Fuße eines Hügels mit dichter Vegetation, auf dem zahlreiche Resorts beheimatet sind. Hinter der Straße, die die Unterkünfte verbindet, liegt bereits undurchdringbarer Dschungel.
- Der Laguna und Nang Thong Beach liegen nördlich vom Sunset Beach. Das Hinterland wird hier wieder flacher. Die Strände erfreuen sich großer Beliebtheit – es ist hier etwas belebter als an den anderen Küstenabschnitten. Der Sand ist hier nicht ganz so fein und einige vom Strand ins Meer ragende Felsen prägen das Landschaftsbild. Am Nang Thong Strand befindet sich das Khao Lak Zentrum, in dem Sie zahlreiche Hotels und Bungalow-Anlagen sowie einige Geschäfte, Restaurants, Tauchschulen, ein Postoffice und noch so einiges mehr vorfinden.
- Der Bang Niang Beach zählt mit zu den beliebtesten Stränden in Khao Lak. Im Süden wird der über drei Kilometer lange Strand durch einen kleinen Fluss und im Norden durch eine wunderschöne Lagune begrenzt. Der Bang Niang Strand ist breit, flach-abfallend und mit feinem Sand gesegnet. Palmen und Pinien sorgen für ausreichend Schatten während einer ausgedehnten Strandwanderung. Sie können dort fast zu jeder Jahreszeit im glasklaren Meereswasser baden gehen.
- Der Khuk Khak Beach ist einer der längsten und auch menschenleersten Strände in Khao Lak. Der mit puderfeinem, hellbraunem Sand gesegnete Strand ist hier sehr breit und flach und wird von Kasuarinen und Kokospalmen gesäumt. Wenn Sie am Strand entlang wandern, werden Sie kaum Hotelanlagen vorfinden – der Küstenabschnitt ist noch sehr unbebaut.
- Weiter nördlich befinden sich noch einige Strände, die nahezu unberührt und naturbelassen sind. Es gibt kaum Hotelanlagen hier – hauptsächlich wird dieser Küstenbereich von den Einheimischen aufgesucht, die ihre Freizeit am Meer verbringen wollen.

Natur und Abenteuer im Khao Sok Nationalpark
DerKhao Sok Nationalparkist einer der beliebtestenNationalparks in Thailand. Von Khao Lak aus werden einige Touren dorthin angeboten. Sie können dort auf Elefanten reiten, eine Kanufahrt oder Rafting-Tour machen und durch den Dschungel trekken. Im Khao Sok Nationalparkt befindet sich der größte Stausee Thailands, der mit einer atemberaubenden Natur rund um sein Ufer aufwartet.
Schnorcheln und Tauchen bei Koh Similian
Das Inselparadies Koh Similian besteht aus neun kleinen Inseln und liegt etwa 70 Kilometer der Küste vorgelagert. Vom Lamru-Hafen aus können Sie sich mit dem Boot zu einer Besichtigungstour aufmachen. Es erwartet Sie eines der besten Schorchel- und Tauchgründe weltweit. Bei den Similian Inseln handelt es sich um einen Nationalpark, der von Mai bis Oktober geschlossen bleibt.

Anreise nach Khao Lak
Mit dem Flugzeug: Sie können entweder von Bangkok nach Phuket fliegen oder auch direkt aus Deutschland dorthin – Phuket hat einen internationalen Flughafen. Von dort aus können Sie problemlos mit dem Bus oder einem Privattransfer nach Khao Lak fahren – die Fahrt dauert etwa 1,5 Stunden.
Mit dem Zug: Southern Line, bis nach Surat Thani und von da aus mit dem Bus weiter nach Khao Lak.
